2018 John Leslie Art Prize Finalists Announced

Congratulations to Raymond Arnold and Sarah Tomasetti, who have been announced as a Finalists in the 2018 John Leslie Art Prize.

Inaugurated in 2000, the John Leslie Art Prize is a national, biennial prize for landscape painting, named after the former Patron of the Gippsland Art Gallery, John Leslie OBE (1919-2016).

The selected paintings will be on display at Gippsland Art Gallery, 70 Foster Street, Sale, Victoria from Friday 22 September to 25 November, entry is free.

The four-member selection panel, comprising Gallery Director Simon Gregg, Curator Erin Mathews, and Gallery Advisory Group members Gillian Kline and George Thomas, were overwhelmed by the quality and variety of entries. Gregg said, “The standard of entries this year was phenomenal, and proves that painting is flourishing in Australia today”.

The winning artwork will be automatically acquired for the Gippsland Art Gallery’s permanent collection. The judge for this year’s Prize is the distinguished art critic, writer and broadcaster Dr Andrew Frost.
