Opening Night Tuesday 29 September 6pm to 8pm
Ron's painting and sculpture express a relationship with the world filled with possibility. Compositions are pauses in a continuum. A steel rod winds its way from one cylinder to another; paint oozes across the board. For a moment movement stops, but the slightest change of any detail would set the ensemble of forms in motion again.
Ron often starts with one thing and examines how it responds to different angles of view, and how it copes when something else is put nearby or laid over the top. Does the initial form hold its own and do the emerging spatial relationships seem frantic or relaxed, throttled, or capacious? Rarely does Ron execute a composition premade in his mind. Instead, he allows it to grow as if from a seed. The work is finished when it feels just right.
