OPENING NIGHT Tuesday 3 March 6pm to 8pm
Returning from the West, I was struck by the stark contrast of colour across this vast continent. From the red sands of the desert to the dirty browns and ochres of farmland stretching eastward, and then to the kaleidoscope of colour found in the capital cities. From flat, open landscapes and endless skies to the rise of mountain ranges.
Underlying these shifts is a total dependence on what lies beneath the deserts for the sustainability of the east.
These may be obvious observations to someone from Melbourne, but as an artist, colour is the driving force of my work - shaped by the tension between these contrasting landscapes and the stories they hold.
