Lou Klepac: What does it mean to be a painter?

William Robinson: Being a painter is a matter of gaining a passion, which is very difficult to define. It doesn’t start, I don’t think, with the passion, but it just builds and builds until it becomes impossible to live without thinking of the next image, or the image that you’re working on at the moment. It’s just a matter of keeping going without any help and beyond criticism - building up something within yourself.
