OPENING NIGHT Tuesday 23 September 6pm to 8pm
Paper Trail traces the landscapes, both physical and emotional, that have shaped Marina Strocchi’s life and art in recent times. The title reflects a journey through places and experiences, each leaving its mark on her vision. From her years in the Northern Territory, to her current home and studio in the Yarra Valley, to formative residencies in New York and Kangaroo Valley, she continually draws inspiration from the environments around her.
Her works capture the character of each place: the rhythm of bushland and escarpment, the ordered beauty of vineyards and gardens, the towers of the city skyline. Together, they form a visual language that balances structure with lyricism.
Material plays an important role in her practice. Strocchi often paints on handmade, recycled Indian rag paper, whose textured surface adds a sense of movement and immediacy. This exhibition also includes works on linen of Birrarung/the Yarra River, as well as two sculptural pieces that extend her exploration into three dimensions. Across different mediums, Paper Trail celebrates the resonance of everyday landscapes and deep connection to place.
