This exhibition was originally envisioned as a sculpture show but there was also a more broadly based touring show of mine at Benalla Regional Gallery and then in Melbourne earlier this year. It included paintings that I made in London in 1963/64*. Theses works have never been shown in my home town so why not combine them all and why not show what I was doing as a twenty two year old.

Art in the 60s was optimistic, outward looking and adventurous. That spirit is present in these works and is characteristic, I would hope, of all my work.

For me, colour after music has the most immediate effect on the emotions. That saturated paint soaked into the canvas, it absorbs light and glows, most other mediums reflect light and that light is white. The sensation of saturated colour is like being immersed in a warm sea.
