In 2023 and 2024, I travelled to Japan for RMIT to co-lead study tours with School of Art students, following which I learnt of tataki zome, or flower pounding, in which natural flower dyes are released onto cloth or paper. This small book records my first experiments with tataki zome on returning to Melbourne, and also features rubber stamps from a specialist store in Kyoto. The title “Dreaming of Sunset Hibiscus” refers to the medium that was used in the paper-making workshops at Washi no Sato.
