The Death of a Wombat dealt with fire. with a wombat as the main figure. Dingo King was about drought. with the dingo as the main character.

In A Sliver of Time. the natural enemy is flood. and the kangaroo is the chief animal protagonist.

All three programmes were first heard as ABC broadcasts. with the spoken texts set to music. The Death of a Wombat won an Italia Prize as a documentary broadcast. The three books together constitute an important statement about the out back territory of Australia and are also allegories of the human condition.
