Caroline Purves, daughter of Tam and Anne Purves, commenced work at Australian Galleries in 1960 to 1966 as assistant to her parents. Later she was employed at TAA, and then returned to the gallery scene to work at the newly established Bonython Galleries in Sydney and John Gill Galleries in Perth. She later pursued a career in retail for almost twenty years until the death of her mother in 1999, wherein Caroline rejoined the gallery to maintain the comprehensive volume of archival material in the galleries’ extensive Archives Department which was started in 1956 when Australian Galleries was founded.
