‘SALVATORE ZOFREA: MASTER OF LIGHT’

Sat 27 April, 5 – 7pm

Manly Art Gallery & Museum

This film presents an intimate portrait of a remarkable Australian artist whose journey has taken him from war torn Italy as a child, to his search for a new life in Australia. Adolescence, loss and discovery are all part of this coming of age in a new land where Salvatore Zofrea (b.1946) discovers his great skills as an artist. Award winning filmmaker Richard Mordaunt set out to tell Salvatore’s life story, which is interwoven with Salvatore painting Morning Light, a monumental artwork reminiscent of Monet’s late panoramas. Zofrea is a three time winner of the prestigious Sulman Prize and has been a finalist in the Archibald and Wynne for many years.

The evening includes refreshments and an introduction and Q&A with filmmaker Richard Mordaunt and artist Salvatore Zofrea, providing unique insights into the film process and stories behind the artist, family and friends who were part of the project. Presented by MANLY ART GALLERY & MUSEUM SOCIETY, in partnership with filmmakers Bill Leimbach and Richard Mordaunt, as part of a new series of documentary art films on the lives of four inspirational Australian artists.
