- Kyoko Imazu

Australian Galleries is proud to present a collection of ceramics by Kyoko Imazu.

Having moved to Australia as a young adult, Imazu draws upon her nostalgic view of childhood in Japan, a reflection that is intrinsic to the narrative of each work. She fondly recreates idyllic memories of vast rice paddocks, natural growth, vibrant colours and tiny creatures. Animals are a recurring theme throughout Japanese and Australian mythologies and Imazu’s practice is heavily influenced by this common folklore. Through her distinctive work she explores her relationship with memory and the natural world.

Kyoko Imazu mesmerises viewers with her fantastical mind, bringing her unique fairy tales, critters and characters to life. Tiny creatures crawl out of Imazu’s imagination and into the hearts of her audience.
