Melissa Smith

Melissa Smith is a Launceston based artist who works primarily with print. She has a Bachelor of Education (Secondary Art) from the South Australia College of Advanced Education, Adelaide and a Masters of Cultural Heritage from Deakin University, Melbourne. She currently balances her art practice with her role at Arts Tasmania as a Roving Curator with the Cultural Heritage Program. Melissa references aspects of the landscape in her work, often being drawn to remote places which provide quietness and a sense of hope within our ever-changing world. There is a story and journey associated with each print that references her desire to step lightly and to listen deeply to these places that she connects with. Her work has been exhibited widely and is represented in private and public collections in Australia and overseas including the National Gallery of Australia and Regional Galleries in New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania.
