These recent paintings reference a variety of ideas including – narrative, transience, beauty, serenity, dualities (dark/light), fear, the esoteric and dreams – amongst other things. Some paintings grew entirely from simple starting points like three words in a poem, a paragraph in a book, another piece of art or just a curious thought. Other works were sparked by something visual I noticed in the landscape around me, through the visual sense rather than thought or concept.
In general, I see my paintings as a little bit scattered from one another in what is being conveyed, and yet unified pictorially by the landscape and recurring motifs I paint – located in the Pyrenees of central west Victoria. - Nick Dridan 2025
