Australian Galleries is pleased to share that Fleur Rendell‘s collage response to a novel by acclaimed Queensland author Sally Piper, Bone Memories, has been selected for the Biblio Art Prize.

The Biblio Art Prize is a initiative of Blarney Books & Art, located in Port Fairy, VIC. Each year, artists are invited to register into the prize, and are randomly allocated a book by an Australian author that they are required to create an artwork in response to. Established in 2009, the Biblio Art Prize enters its 14th year in 2022.

Rendell says of the experience: “I thoroughly enjoyed the process of being allocated a book, by an Australian author, to illustrate. There is a significant fig tree in the novel that almost feels like another character.”

The book blurb reads: ‘Even though sixteen years have passed, Billie will never recover from the murder of her daughter, Jess, and clings to her memory – and the site of her death – like a raft. Daniel, who was a toddler when his mother was killed can recall little of what happened but knows if he’s to have any chance of a better future he needs to move on from that defining event – if only his grandmother would let him. Meanwhile Daniel’s stepmother, Carla, also feels trapped by Jess’s legacy but has a plan that she believes will help everyone to escape from the long shadow of that terrible event.’
