ROSALIND ATKINS – PAPER MILLS
‘Paper mills’ flick book, 2017, is a record of the waste paper collected at the Amcor Paper Mill site in Alphington prior to its closure in 2012 to make way for a new suburb. The 92 images depict the vast amounts of waste collected and elements of the physical environment. The colours, orange and black reflect the huge brick wall that dominated the site and the colour of newspapers. Designed so the images can be flicked through from either end at a speed determined by the reader the book is about waste.’ – Rosalind Atkins

GLENDA ORR – MEASURED DISTANCING O&X GAMES
‘During COVID, I documented social distancing motifs, physical manifestations of 1.5 metre rule, I was standing on. Ironically, before 2020, O and X signified a hug and kiss, symbols of physical closeness, now they’re inverted to effect physical distancing. Standing apart now helps protect those we love. A signifier of O and X is Noughts and Crosses, a game of strategy where the players’ early decision-making skills are significant in determining the outcome. The game often depends on the first moves and frequently ends with no winners, an apt metaphor for COVID management experiments.‘ – Glenda Orr
