Sai-Wai Foo will be exhibiting new mixed-media works as part of Have You Eaten? at Bendigo Art Gallery. For this collaborative exhibition, Foo has worked with ceramicist Vipoo Srivilasa to create a series of works celebrating food, friendship, and cultural identity. Delicate, hand-painted porcelain and textile sculptures explore the central place of food in diasporic communities as a source of nourishment, pleasure and connection.

“Food is such a huge part of the migrant experience. As a migrant you are so far from your cultural home. It ties into identity, family, home, and comfort. It’s also about celebration, and caregiving.

That’s how the title of this body of work came about. In Asian culture we don’t ask how you are, we ask you have you eaten? Then we proceed to feed you.” —  Sai-Wai Foo, interview with Bendigo Times.

Australian Galleries is also delighted to announce that Sai-Wai Foo will be showing new work in her first solo exhibition with the gallery, taking place in Melbourne from 25 October – 12 November 2022.
