Congratulations to Nerissa Lea, who has been selected as a finalist in The Lester Prize 2023 for her work Reg Lynch with Pencil.

The Lester Prize is one of Australia’s most recognised and prestigious fine art prizes – an award that places artists and the community proudly front and centre. Established in 2007, The Lester Prize is a not-for-profit organisation that provides an avenue for artists to exhibit works of portraiture in Western Australia.

With an annual prize pool valued at over $100,000, The Lester Prize is one of the nation’s richest and most recognised art prizes. Over 750 entries are received each year, with 40 Finalists selected to be exhibited at The Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA). The Prize provides local artists with the chance to compete on a national stage and be supported with mentoring and engagements.

This year, a record-breaking number of entries were made from across Australia. From 950 entries, 40 works were selected by Pre-Selection Panellists Annika Kristensen, Liz Looker, Kevin Robertson and Bahar Sayed.
