Celebrated artist Fairlie Kingston was born in Sydney and is well renowned for her ceramic relief tiles and sculptures of lighthouses and coastal scenes from around the Eastern suburbs and Sydney Harbour. Kingston uses clay to create models of pre-war iconic public buildings in three dimensions, as well as landscapes and urban scenes on clay tiles in two dimensions with an emphasis on strong line and flat, even colour.
Kingston has been exhibiting with Australian Galleries since 1993 and her works have been exhibited in several regional art galleries and internationally in New York. In 2011, the exhibition ‘Peter and Fairlie Kingston: A Shared Childhood’ was held at Maitland Regional Art Gallery where Fairlie showed alongside her brother and respected artist, Peter Kingston. Her work is in the collection of the Australian National Maritime Museum; Manly Art Gallery and Museum; Mitchell Library, State Library of NSW; and Newcastle Regional Art Gallery.
