Catharsis
- Kevin Mortensen

“Like an omnipresent bird that surveys humanity in all its complexity from an elevated position, Mortensen`s art develops from astute observation. His recent sculpture The Overseer, features a raven atop a tower, acting as a sentinel and observer like Odin the Nordic raven God, surveying all that pass by. Birds have been a powerful recurring motif in much of Kevin’s work since the 1970’s. As foregrounded in his Venice Biennale performance piece Even the Hairs on your Forearms Grow in the Same Direction as their Feathers (1980) Mortensen highlights the evolutionary link between humans and birds”.
