Barbie Kjar

b. 1957

Printmaker Barbie Kjar completed a Bachelor of Fine Art at the University of Tasmania in 1987 and a Masters degree at RMIT in 2000. She has held solo exhibitions since 1986 in Hobart, Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney and Brisbane. She has been included in group exhibitions at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, Hobart; Korea and France. She has been artist in residence in California, Barcelona, Canberra and Tokyo. She was awarded the Trust Bank Art Award in 1992, the Conrad Jupiters Art Prize in 1999 and Victorian Arts Board Grants in 1988, 1991 and 2004. Her work is held by the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra; the Tasmanian Museum and Gallery, Hobart; Artbank, Sydney; Parliament House, Canberra and several regional and university galleries.
