Cathy Weiszmann

Sydney sculptor Cathy Weiszmann is nationally recognised for her powerful and poignant figurative sculptures, depicting both human and animal forms. Weiszmann studied at the National Art School Sydney, and it was during these formative years that she discovered a love and a natural ability for modelling in wax; the art of creating form by the additive process as opposed to the reductive process of carving or creating a definitive mould. Cathy Weiszmann has been casting bronze for more than twenty years. Her affinity for and mastery of this process is apparent in her single figure sculptures that communicate striking diversity of both form and sentiment when viewed from different angles. Dynamic and beautifully observed anatomical contours convey much about the artist’s human and horse subjects alike – strength, fragility and genuine individuality emanating from every limb.
