‘A Place Thereafter’ presents a dynamic series of recent sculptures by Ayako Saito. These vibrant works in painted steel showcase Saito’s masterful ability to use bold colour, lyrical curves and geometric planes to create a sense of movement and space within each piece.
‘One of my favourite memories from childhood is that I was sitting underneath the grand piano at home. The sensation of being in that space is something I try to revisit, and therefore reflect in my sculpture.
I am fascinated by how ‘space’ suddenly emerges and defines itself, merely through the creation of two lines, or the addition of one other thing.
