ARTIST TALK
Saturday 13 July 2pm

‘This body of work began back in 2015, and has continued to grow from a number of events that happened over the past few years.

In ‘15, l was commissioned to make a Christmas diorama for the Warrnambool City Council. After it was shown on Liebig Street, the work was displayed in the old Fletcher Jones factory. Unfortunately, it was incomplete as one of its main pieces had been lost. l walked past the Fletcher Jones window many times, over many years, thinking about how I could salvage and rework this piece. It wasn’t until the beginning of 2023 that I was able to get back into that window and make a start. This led me to begin a body of work focused on Warrnambool, my hometown.

Due to family circumstances, I moved to Melbourne, and more works started to generate based on the buildings I observed along the highway as I drove between ‘The Bool’ and Melbourne.

Now having spent most of the last two years in Melbourne, my focus has been on the urban landscape. It’s been really good fun. I really enjoy cutting the figures and buildings out of plywood, creating a kind of sculptural relief. I like the look of the cut edge, and I like the freedom of being able to move your objects around the painting before you place them permanently.

I’ve really enjoyed making these pieces and I hope that you will enjoy them as well.’
