Something old, Something new…
- Pam Tippett

Over the years I have accumulated many random ‘things’. Inherited, acquired on travels, gifts, from op shops and markets. Some are the result of temporary fixations – perfect bread boards or old bins and canisters (good mouse proof storage) – while some just catch my eye. Sometimes kind friends lend me something interesting.

In normal day-to-day life we just scan for recognition – flowers, fruit and vegetables, a plate, views, anything. When I am in painting mode I look closely at everything around me, seeing beauty in the mundane. Potential subjects everywhere. I think of the paintings as being a kind of portrait of these subjects, searching for idiosyncrasies, signs of age, of a previous history, flaws, textures, that make them themselves. In a way honouring their existence and their connection to me.
