Born in Melbourne in 1915, Grahame King was an Australian artist, gifted draughtsman and master printmaker who significantly contributed to the field of printmaking in Australia. He taught printmaking at RMIT for two decades and was awarded an Order of Australia in 1991 for services to education. Grahame was an inspiration and mentor to many Australian printmakers and helped set up the Print Council of Australia together with Dr Ursula Hoff and Udo Sellbach.
Grahame’s skilful printmaking concentrated on lithographs and monotypes, with influences from Japan to Arnhem land. His work is represented in a number of major collections including the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra.
