Michael Fitzjames

b. 1948

Illustrator and landscape painter Michael Fitzjames received a Diploma in Fine Arts from the University of Tasmania in 1976. He worked as an illustrator for the Guardian Newspaper from 1978 to 1980, the National Times from 1980 to 1989 and the Sydney Morning Herald from 1990. His work has been included in the Lewers Bequest exhibition in 1987 and cartoon exhibitions held at the National Museum of Australia, Canberra in 2005. His work is held by the State Library of New South Wales, the State Library of Victoria and the Lewers Bequest, Penrith. A monograph of Fitzjames’ work was published in 1986 titled ‘Michael Fitzjames: Drawings’ by Stained Wattle Press.
