Poetic Discord
- George Baldessin

‘Poetic Discord examines the use of architectural and pictorial space in the work of the late printmaker and sculptor George Baldessin (1939 – 1978). Well known for his figurative subject matter, this exhibition explores Baldessin’s equally important use of enclosure and architectural armature. His powerful mark-making and mastery of technique was coupled with an acute sensitivity to, and observation of, the human condition, finding poetry in the inherent tension of life. Baldessin’s figures are animated by distortion and fragmentation, but also by the push and pull evident between the figures and their environment. Line, space and volume attempt to restrict, divide or contain. This exhibition brings together a selection of works on paper and sculpture in which Baldessin set down his singular vision in metal, charcoal and ink’.
