On with the show
- Peter Kingston

Peter Kingston is highly celebrated for his sensitive and evocative works that portray a lifelong connection to Sydney Harbour and a deeply rooted desire to preserve its character and charm. Kingston conveys, with great reverence, life on and around the water. From the iconic old ferries to the moon rising over the majestic Sydney Opera House, he expertly captures the changing colours, tones and textures observed from the vantage point of his harbourside studio.

Kingston’s paintings are full of energy, of palpable life force. Kingston masterfully portrays the raw power of the elements while equally communicating a sense of softness, of familiarity and beauty. His passion to not only record but to protect the harbour can be felt with every brushstroke and as such his works are propelled beyond visually pleasing compositions to become deeply moving and poignant acts of documentation.

Accompanying the canvases, his drawings and series of prints possess a sensibility that can be any combination of wonderfully jocular, contemplative, or momentous. It is an apt summary from an artist who has observed his surroundings so closely and become intimately familiar with every eccentricity of every place and person.

On with the show includes a highly anticipated new series of paintings, drawings, and prints as well as iconic works selected from the artist’s personal collection, spanning four decades of work.
