Dianne Fogwell

b. 1958

Dianne Fogwell is a national award-winning artist and one of the most respected printmakers and artists book practitioners in Australia.

Born in Lismore, Australia in 1958, Dianne is an acclaimed master printer, and founding director of print studios such as Studio One, Criterion Fine Art Press and Gallery, ANU – Edition + Artist Book Studio and Lewis Editions.

Dianne has been exhibiting since 1981 and has a long list of national and international solo and group exhibitions. Recent awards include the, CityNews, ACT Arts Award for 2021Artist of the Year2021 Geelong Print Prize and the inaugural WAMA Art Prize Award of Excellence2020 Libris Award, the inaugural 2019 Megalo International Print Prize, Visual Arts Award The Canberra Critics Circle, special prize winner 2019 Ulsan International Woodcut Print Biennale, the national 2017 Geelong Print Prize and 2017 Banyule Award for Works on Paper. She was recently the Grand Prix Winner, Ukraine for her artist book “Emu”. Dianne was the invited Judge for the 2021 Burnie Print Prize and International Juror for the 7th Bahart Bhavan International Biennial of Print, Bhopal, India and the 2018 New Zealand Print and Painting Award.

She has been an invited artist to international biennials for print and the artist book in Poland, Belgium, Belgrade, London and most recently France, China and Portugal. She has been a selected finalist in major national print and painting awards such as the National Works on Paper, Silk Cut Award, Burnie Print Prize, Swan Hill Print and Painting Prize and the Portia Geach Portrait Prize.

In 2018 Dianne was both author and publisher of A Printmaker’s Cookbook – Images in Relief, a comprehensive 192-page publication originating from her 40-year career in print and the artists’ book, as artist and maker, master printer and in this instance as educator.

Dianne was a lecturer at the ANU School of Art for from 1981 to 2006, lecturing in the Graphic Investigation workshop 1985 – 1996 and from 1996 to 2006 Lecturer in charge of the Edition + Artist Book Studio. Dianne has been curator, co/curator for international and national touring exhibitions for artist books and given workshops and lecturers in Greece, New Zealand, South Korea and Japan.

Dianne is represented in many national and international collections including National Gallery of Australia; China Printmaking Museum, Guanlan, Shenzhen, China and most Regional Galleries, Public Libraries, Universities, corporate and private collections.
