Densely layered, monumental paintings reveal recurring themes within Cameron Hayes’ oeuvre drawn from unabashed, uncomfortable observations of Australian identities; searches for a collective and individual self; stories of fear, violence, lies, absurdity, acid humour, with hidden flickers of empathy. Hayes’ first major solo exhibition was held in 2000 by Australian Galleries. The artist has been a finalist numerous times in The Blake Prize, Moet and Chandon fellowship and touring exhibition 1994 and 1995, plus the John Sulman Art Prize in 1995, 1998, 2014 and 2015.
Cameron Hayes is represented in Australia by Australian Galleries, Melbourne and Sydney and Ronald Feldman Galleries, New York.
